Small Groups

As a church we are committed to a small group strategy. In the book of Acts we catch our first glimpse of a similar priority. Acts 5:12 tells us that the people “were all in one accord in Solomon’s Portico”; a covered section of the court of the Gentiles in the temple area. Acts 2:46 refers to this corporate meeting but it also presents a second dynamic, “Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house”. While the group met together, they also met in smaller gatherings in peoples homes. Our goal is to share both experiences.

Why, because small groups afford us opportunities that are not available during our corporate meetings. We can easily ask questions, pray intimately for each others needs, encourage each other, and develop deeper relationships.

Three priorities exist for each group: to grow deeper in their love for God through the study of God’s word, to pursue a commitment to serving others together, and to spread the good news of Jesus’ redemption. To achieve these goals I presented a challenge during our small group celebration. Each of our groups should cultivate a three unique roles – administrators, shepherds and teachers. This will allow more people to share their gifts and prepare more small group leaders for the future.
