Who we are as a church
A “church” is not some place you go to, but a people you belong
to! Even though Windham Baptist Church meets at 973 River Road, that’s not
who we are. Windham Baptist Church is really just a small community within the
large community of the Windham area. Like any family, we’re made up of some
of the most unlikely of characters! Our friendship and our mission are not based
on “finding religion”, but living and loving like Jesus in our homes,
our schools, our work places, our everywhere. We are convinced that Jesus offers
the only true hope for our world that screams out for justice, for rescue, for
truth…for a Savior. Because of this, we desire to follow Jesus’ example
and act upon his words to be his hands, feet, heart, and voice in a world that
desperately needs to know that God has not left us to our own destruction but
provides forgiveness, healing, and new life to everyone who believes in and follows
Jesus.
As we share life together by following Jesus, we find it a joy and privilege
to meet together. Every week we meet all at once on Sunday mornings and then in
our homes in smaller groups throughout the week. We don’t gather for worship,
per se, as though we only worship God on Sundays. Why? Because every thought,
word, and action that honors God is an act of worship; the way that we encourage
each other through our singing, preaching, giving, and praying in our gatherings
is a part of our entire life-of-worship. To sum up: we believe that God's total
plan and purpose for his people includes a rhythm of the church gathering for
encouragement (gathered worship) and scattering for mission (individual worship).
One without the other creates a lopsided church.
Ultimately, we want to love God supremely and our neighbor as ourselves. This
is what Jesus himself said was most important!
